I'm going to take a break from the normal game to game break down and just give you my thoughts and opinions (Please don't mad if I say something you don't agree with) about the season thus fair, in no real order :
*Keith Benson- A very talented player who I now know why is predicted to go to The League. The guy is just an all around great player and had a REALLY good game against number one ranked Kansas. He proved that he can play against ANYBODY. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that last nights game against Memphis was a fluke. He went scoreless the first half and only finished with nine points and nine boards. Every player has an off day. I look forward to the rest of his season. He is also the Summit League player of the week.
*Drew Maynard- WHY DOESN'T THIS KID GET MORE PLAYING TIME? Did anybody see him at the past 2 home games? Kid was everywhere he needed to be and played well. I LOVE watching him and Derick or JJ set up Alleys. He gets that glare in his eyes and big bright smile and you know something is going to happen. DUNK! During the Rochester College game, a player fouled him so he did not get dunked on TWICE in a matter of 4 seconds. But besides alleys and dunks, he plays very hard during the games and I don't see why he doesn't get more time than he does. Kampe seems to prefer to put Cushingberry in the line up. Do not get me wrong, Cush is a good player, but I think that Drew is better.
*Larry Wright- "WHERE ART THOU": I'm putting an Amber Alert out for him in these games! All that hype and the kid just isn't preforming well. Kampe bobble head for anybody that can find him or his skills.
*Derick Nelson and Jonathan Jones- I really do not have that much to say about them right now. Sorry to disappoint guys.
*Ledrick Eackles- I like this kid. He is able to come off the bench and knock a few shots down for the grizzlies when we need it. Its nice to have great backup on the bench when your starters and go to kids need a rest. I'm impressed with the freshman so far, hope he keeps it up. I see him on the starting five next year.
*I really cannot comment too much on the past few games because I wasn't there and I don't want to steal the play by play from the Grizzlies site. But if you want to read about it, go here:
*The Grizzlies go away for the next two weeks, BUT you can follow the action on twitter. Who ever updates the page is really good at keeping fans updated. Check it out:
I like hearing about these players. I don't follow OU basketball too much, but I'm glad to hear that there are some talented players.
ReplyDeleteI still don't understand all this "going to the league" talk with Benson. He's a good mid-major player who can put up outstanding numbers against teams like Central Arkansas but he seems too undersized and not strong enough for the NBA.
ReplyDeleteAs for Drew Maynard, I totally agree. I feel like he is the most athletic player on the team and creates mismatches for whoever has to guard him.
Also, it seems like Kampe gave up on Wright. The guy lost his starting spot and only played like 6 minutes last night.
The NBA is called "the league" because of all the professional sporting leagues, basketball is the hardest to make it to and for that matter stay apart off. Am I going to see a feature on Benson anytime soon?
ReplyDeleteThe offense or defense hasn't been there the last 3 games, Memphis they played terrible. If they don't show up against IPFW then it could be some trouble, remember IPFW is a league game and going up against Dane Fife.

Good blog...I dont make many of the games and I like to hear about the players. Hopefully they do something good this year.
ReplyDeleteThis blog makes me consider going to my first OU basketball game, good stuff. would love to say i saw him play back in college when benson gets drafted
ReplyDeletei think benson will get drafted, now if he plays. . .IM NOT SURE! he's got the talent. did u see Kito his freshman year? he was tall and skinny, no muscle! hes IMPROVED A LOT. read the stats against kansas, he played his ass off. he has proven that he can play well with anybody. but of course, we shall see come draft time
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work, I'm glad someone keeps up on OU bball for me.
ReplyDeleteAMBER ALERT for Larry Wright. You got me cracking up. Very entertaining blog. But for real Wright does need to step up.

ReplyDeleteKeith Benson is crazy good. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteMcDonald, did you watch Benson play against one of the top NBA prospects in Cole Aldrich. Benson actually took it to him and was by far the better player. Benson is skinny yes, but so are a lot of players who are naturally talented.
ReplyDeleteKampe has actually said that he hates the way that Maynard plays defense which is why he doesn't play. All that dunking is nice, but sometimes Maynard has defensive lapses and takes unnecessary shots.
Wright deserved to get his spot taken out. Kampe does not know what to do with him and has said that. Wright has the talent to make them a very good team, but hasn't shown it. If he can start making his threes he will start again because he is a great defender.
I disagree with the whole Maynard playing time thing. Yes he has potential to be an outstanding player and he is very athletic but he plays crappy defense. Also he does not put up many numbers. Yes its impressive when he goes up for the slam but that's all he has been showing us. I expect a lot more out of him shooting wise and he just isn't producing.
ReplyDeleteWright is not playing because he isn't doing anything either.
Benson is good but I don't know if he is good enough. He definetly needs to bulk up if he wants to play in the NBA and avoid getting snapped in half.
