Oakland University Mens Baketball defeated Hope College, 97-62, on Tuesday in the pre season game at the O'Rena. I honestly was not at this game (sad face right?!) because I had to be at ABC News Station in Flint for a class field trip. But Im told it was very uneventful (I had friends at the game who texted me updates) Oakland led the entire game. There was no doubt that OU couldnt beat Hope.

Only player who was not dressed was Reggie Hamilton. He's an automatic redshirt because he's a transfer. Kampe has yet to offically say who he is red shirting but I have my spectulations.
The surprise about the game was hearing about Drew Valentines role on the court. We figured that Kampe would play a few of his newcomers and bench kids, but i didnt expect a big impact from Valentine, 14 points and seven boards. We should see him on the court this season, I just hope that he doesnt get lost in the mix of OU's talent.
We will find out alot aout the team on Saturday evening when OU takes on Eastern Michigan in the O'Rena at 7pm. Pre game tailgating is before the game in the parking lots. Free giveaways and food will be provided. I WILL BE AT THIS GAME, probley updating my blog via my blackberry, so check back if you cannot make the game, Ill have details and the full scoop.
OU is currently on a 14 game winning streak at home, im sure the EMU game will be a change of pace from Hope College but im sure the Grizzlies can pull it off. Eastern didnt beat Oakland in last seasons matches, or the previous season for that matter. EMU is only predicted to place third in the MAC conference after CMU, and N. Illinois. Eastern has more to prove then OU does, so the challenge will be seeing if the Eagles can keep up witht the OU pace and make it a close match if not a victory.

Who are you speculating he will redshirt? It might be a good idea to redshirt Valentine now. The team is so deep, I don't see him getting too much PT during the regular season, unless he's a lot better than I thought.
ReplyDeleteim rolling with Freshman Travis Bader forsure with a redshirt. i think that Valentine is 50-50 right now, he showed his skills but he still might need developement.
ReplyDeletePlay Valentine now. Bader most likely will be redshirted. The team is that deep this year. Can't wait until march.
ReplyDeleteI can only see good things for this team this season. C'mon boys...
ReplyDeleteI like this blog.. OU is very deep this year they should make the tournament. They shouldn't have lost against Eastern on Saturday though. Their shooting was off and I was disappointed in Nelson even though he produced 20 points. He missed sooooo many 2 footers and all his free throws.. could have won the game if he would have made at least 1/4 of those points. I was very pleased with Cushingberry this game. He boxed out and rebounded rather well unlike nearly everyone else out there (minus Benson). Thought Maynard would produce more but maybe he was just having an off game(I will say he had a nice oop!). Benson was pretty good too, wish they would have given him the ball a bit more. One last thing.. JJ=consistent, a true leader but we can't depend on him for everything.
ReplyDeleteCush played a decent game, in the beginning he did not play that well but he was able to come through at the clutch. Valentine didn't get a red shirt and we saw why! hes a GREAT player that i cannot wait to see grow, hes only a freshman.
